Q1) Can you tell us about your venue and what makes it unique in SG's Pickleball landscape?
Unlike playing on indoor parquet badminton courts or generic concrete, our courts are professionally surfaced and dedicated strictly to Pickleball. This ensures a true, consistent bounce, essential for players who want to develop their game without the ball skidding unpredictably.
Beyond the floor, we’ve optimized for the Singapore heat. Our outdoor courts feature sunshades that block 80% of UV rays, keeping things significantly cooler. We also installed nets between every court to prevent ‘stray ball’ interruptions.
Finally, we’ve created a lush rest area with artificial grass; it’s designed to be a social hub where the community can chill and talk shop between games.
Q2) How do you engage with the local community and promote the sport?
We believe in a "cradle-to-podium" approach. We offer Introductory Lessons for total beginners to learn the ropes, followed by Group & Private coaching across three distinct levels (Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate). For those looking for a game without the hassle of booking a full court, our facilitated Open Play sessions are a huge hit – you just buy a ticket, show up, and we handle the rotations so you get to play with a variety of partners.

On the competitive side, we’re best known for our MRT-themed tournaments (like the North-South Line and East-West Line Opens) which bring a bit of local flavor to the circuit. We also recently launched our Monthly Medal series, specifically designed for newer players to experience the thrill of competition in a supportive environment.
Q3) What trends are you noticing in the SG scene, and how is your venue adapting?
The standard is rising incredibly fast! With the government’s support, we’re seeing more high-quality infrastructure appearing across the island. This influx of new players and better facilities means the average skill level in Singapore is skyrocketing. At Straits Pickle Club, we’re leaning into this by constantly innovating our programming.
We don’t just want to provide a court; we want to provide a pathway to improvement. Aside from constantly iterating on our coaching programs, events like our Monthly Medal are our way of ensuring that as the scene grows, no player is left behind.
Q4) What have been some of the biggest challenges you've faced?
One of our biggest challenges is balancing our commitment to an authentic outdoor experience with the reality of Singapore’s tropical climate. Because we chose a professional outdoor surface over a sheltered indoor hall (to ensure the best possible ball bounce), we are at the mercy of the rain.
It’s always tough to postpone a high-energy session due to a downpour, but it has actually highlighted how resilient our community is – often, players will just hang out in our rest area, chatting and waiting for the sun to come back out so they can get back to the game!
Q5) What are your future plans for the venue?
Our focus right now is on deepening our roots at our current facility and perfecting the player experience. While we certainly have our eyes on expansion to bring the ‘Straits’ standard to more neighborhoods in Singapore, our priority is ensuring that every player who steps onto our courts today feels like they are part of a club, not just a venue. We have some exciting partnerships and potential new locations in the pipeline, so definitely watch this space!
Q6) Is there another Pickleball venue in SG you like playing away from your own?
Before we opened our own facility, we spent many hours at Delta Sports Complex. It’s a classic spot in the SG scene and holds a lot of good memories for us from the early days of our pickleball journey!
